Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born inventor and teacher of the deaf who was awarded the master United States patent for the telephone on March 7, 1876. He went on to found the Bell Telephone Company the same year and later worked on early flight, hydrofoils and hearing technology, but the telephone patent, and the priority dispute it triggered with Elisha Gray, remains the work he is remembered for.
